MATLAB can plot a 1 x n vector versus an n x 1 vector, or a 1 x n vector versus a 2 x n matrix (you will generate two lines), as long as n is the same for both vectors. The plot command can also be used with just one input vector.

MATLAB has a command that lets you develop an analytical expression of one or more inputs and assign that expression to a variable. The inline command lets you create a function of any number of variables by giving a string containing the function followed by a series of strings denoting the order of the input variables. This method is good for relatively simple functions that will not be used.

Actually, the plotting of a symbolic function of one variable can be accomplished much more easily with the command ezplot, as in the M-Book Introduction to MATLAB. However, plot allows more direct control over the plotting process, and enables one to modify the color, appearance of the curves, etc. (Type help plot for more on this.).
